Image to ASCII Art Generator

ZYRONMATRIX converts an image into ASCII art by sampling its brightness across a grid and redrawing each cell with text. Choose density-based characters or a continuous custom text mask, adjust color and spacing, then export the result as PNG, JPG, or SVG.

How to convert an image to ASCII art

1

Load an image

Select a browser-supported image such as JPG, PNG, or WebP. The source file stays on your device.

2

Choose Ascii Art

Open the Ascii Art mode, then select Density Mapping or Continuous Text Mask.

3

Tune the grid

Adjust grid density, character aspect ratio, spacing, cutoff, contrast, and character intensity.

4

Export

Download PNG or JPG. A verified free account also unlocks SVG export.

Density mapping vs. continuous text mask

ModeHow it worksBest for
Density MappingMatches darker and lighter image regions to different characters.Classic terminal-style portraits and detailed grayscale ASCII.
Continuous Text MaskFlows your chosen text across the grid and uses image brightness as opacity.Posters, editorial layouts, and readable custom text patterns.

Color and output options

Use a solid color, sampled original image colors, monochrome shading, a blue volumetric palette, or a custom three-tone palette. Exposure, contrast, cutoff, invert, and smoothstep controls let you separate facial features, silhouettes, and fine texture before export.

SVG output in ASCII mode uses text elements. A recipient needs a compatible monospace font for the closest visual match; PNG and JPG preserve the exact rasterized appearance.

Privacy: does the image get uploaded?

No source image is uploaded to ZYRONMATRIX servers. Decoding, sampling, rendering, and export run in the browser. If you sign in, Firebase is used for authentication and saved parameter presets—not for your image or video files.

Image to ASCII FAQ

What image format should I use?

JPG, PNG, and WebP work in modern browsers. PNG is useful when the source contains transparency; JPG is efficient for photographs.

Why does very dense ASCII look soft?

Tiny type is affected by browser font anti-aliasing. Increase Character Intensity, raise contrast, or use a slightly larger grid size for sharper glyphs.

Can I use my own words as the ASCII pattern?

Yes. Choose Continuous Text Mask, enter a phrase or long passage, and optionally remove spaces for a seamless pattern.
